(NationRise.com) – A Russian lawmaker, who was one of the main allies of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, was found dead on December 27 under mysterious circumstances after falling from the third floor of his house. The 46-year-old politician Vladimir Egorov was one of the most powerful members of Putin’s ruling party, United Russia. State media reported his house was located in Tobolsk, which is one of the main towns of the western Siberian region of Tyumen Oblast.
State-controlled media outlet Baza said on its Telegram channel that Russian authorities discovered the lawmaker’s corpse in his house’s courtyard during the afternoon. Russian police said in a statement it’s currently investigating the case and the cause of Egorov’s death.
Russia news agency TASS mentioned that the investigative department of the Tyumen region said that the lawmaker suffered from heart issues before falling to his death. Different reports pointed out that Egorov was forced to resign from the city administration back in 2016 after a corruption scandal. However, he wasn’t convicted and eventually returned to Russia’s political fray.
His death represents the latest case of prominent Russian public figures who have also died from falls since the Kremlin decided to invade Ukraine in February 2022. One of the most famous cases was the one of 28-year-old Kristina Baikova, who was the vice president of one of Russia’s central banks, and fell from her 11th-floor apartment under mysterious circumstances. Another case was the one of Russian Armed Forces officer Marina Yankina, who also fell to death from her 16th-floor apartment in St Petersburg back in February.
In September 2022, Russia’s Lukoil oil juggernaut chairman Ravil Maganov fell to his death from a sixth-floor hospital window in the capital, Moscow, while Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin died in August after a jet crash. Meanwhile, authorities found Russia’s leading energy Czar Igor Shkurko dead in his prison cell, a couple of weeks after being accused by a Russian court of taking a bribe. Also, Russia’s science minister Pyotr Kucherenko died after falling ill during a flight to Moscow.
