Politician’s Son Murdered in Alleged Targeted Killing

(NationRise.com) – The son of one of the leading lawmakers in the Dominican Republic was shot to death at a gas station in Houston, Texas, on April 1. According to the Houston Police Department, officers were already searching for four male suspects that are wanted for what they referred to as a “targeted killing.”

In a statement, the department said that the shooting’s victim was named Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas. His father, Alfredo Pacheco, is a powerful political leader in the Dominican Republic and has been the president of the Chamber of Deputies since 2020. Local media said it was possible that the whole incident was part of a hit job, which could spark a political crisis in the Caribbean island if confirmed.

Some reports said the police were called to a gas station during nighttime to find two men shot. Pacheco, who is 34 years old, had arrived at the station with three male friends and shopped at the convenience store before going back to his car. Police said that, as soon as he sat in the vehicle, two cars suddenly arrived with four men carrying long guns. While all of them shot at Pacheco’s car, he and one of his friends ran back to the store but were fatally hit by bullets.

In the statement, the Houston Police Department said that the attack lasted a couple of seconds, with the attackers fleeing from the scene as soon as they hit Pacheco. They also released some images of the suspects and claimed each one of them would face justice.

The political leader’s son was pronounced dead a couple of seconds after arriving at the hospital. Local reports said that he never got involved in politics and was starting a music career under the stage name of El Pikante. One of his friends was taken to a hospital but remains in critical condition.

The House Police Department said it already spoke with Pacheco’s father, who published on April 2 a statement where he confirmed the death of his son.
