Biden Falls in Blue State for the First Time

(NationRise.com) – For the first time, the majority of voters in California disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance, according to a new poll from the University of California, Berkeley.

The new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll found that 44 percent of California voters approve of Biden’s performance, while 52 percent disapprove.

In February, the same poll showed that 57 percent of California voters approved of Biden’s performance, while 39 percent disapproved. While a May poll showed 48 percent of California voters approved of Biden’s performance, and 46 percent disapproved.

More than 6,000 likely voters in California were surveyed in the Berkeley poll during the final week of October. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 2.5 percent.

In a statement, Berkeley polling director Mark DiCamillo said that the decline in Biden’s job approval “includes significant declines” with “traditional Democratic voting blocs.” DiCamillo stated that the poll shows that among young people, women, Latinos as well as Asian Americans, Biden’s approval had significantly declined. He added that Biden’s approval numbers “get worse” among younger voters.

According to the poll, most Californians disapprove of the way Biden has handled inflation, immigration, crime as well as the war between Israel and Hamas. Of Biden’s 2020 voters, close to 40 percent disapprove of his job performance.

Biden’s age, 80, may play a factor in his disapproval ratings. An August UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll found that almost half of the voters in California, including three out of 10 Democrats, were very concerned with Biden’s age.

In a 2024 head-to-head match-up between former President Donald Trump and Biden, the poll still shows Biden winning. However, the poll indicates that the margin of victory would be less than in 2020, when Biden won by 30 points in California. The poll suggests that Biden leads Trump 46 percent to 31 percent, with the margin of victory for Biden currently at 15 points.
