Trump Surges Ahead in State Republicans Haven’t Won in 2 Decades

(NationRise.com) – Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden in states that have not voted Republican for decades. In Virginia, for instance, which has not elected a Republican president since George W. Bush in 2004, Trump is polling at 39% compared to Biden’s 36%. Biden beat Trump by 10% there in 2020 and Hillary Clinton by almost 5% four years earlier.

Black voters have largely tipped the scale toward Trump, as just 46% back Biden, compared to 67% last December. Nationwide, Mr. Trump’s support has ballooned in black communities. In 2020, 12% backed the former President, but he jumped to 26% this year.

Similarly, a YouGov survey taken after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump shows him leading the President by 5%. When polled against Kamala Harris, the Republican also comes out on top, though often by smaller margins. YouGov shows that Trump leads Biden by 52% to 47%, but Harris by 51% to 48%. An Ipsos poll from July 16 places Trump and Harris level at 44% each, but Trump is ahead of Biden by 3%.

Bookmakers recently reported that they view Harris as the most likely Democrat candidate as calls for Joe Biden to step aside intensify. Reports indicate the possibility of a Harris candidacy is growing as President Biden increasingly acknowledges that he may not be physically able to carry out a second term. Democrats are particularly aware that Harris polls better than Biden among black and Hispanic voters, analysts say. Her candidacy would also allow Democrats to avoid the extensive bureaucracy involved in transferring its campaign funds to another contender.

There are concerns, however, about the Vice President’s popularity and poor polling throughout the Biden–Harris administration. Showing a relatively low approval rating at times, some have viewed the Vice President as a liability for the Democrats. Nevertheless, many are now gathering around Harris as Biden’s future becomes increasingly uncertain. Republican Lindsay Graham has warned his GOP colleagues to expect a “dramatically different race” should Harris become the Democrat nominee.
