(NationRise.com) – President Joe Biden is facing more scrutiny from members of his own party as the 2024 campaign season heats up.
Republicans were joined by over a dozen Congressional Democrats in passing a resolution to chastise the Biden administration’s poor handling of border security and illegal immigration. They also told the president to improve border security.
Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) slammed Biden for allowing a crisis to unfold at the border. As a result, according to Perez, drug cartels are largely in control of the border as they ship massive amounts of the deadly fentanyl drug into the US. That, she said, is why she supported the resolution, H. RES. 1112.
The resolution credits the Biden administration, and specifically Alejandro Mayorkas, the current Secretary of Homeland Security, for creating the most significant border crisis in American history. Perez added a provision suggesting that Biden bring back the “Remain in Mexico” policy. Doing so would require immigrants applying for asylum to wait in Mexico for approval, not the US. She also called on Congress to support legislation for securing the southern border.
Representative Eric Sorensen (D-IL) also said that a secure border is among his top priorities and his constituents in Illinois. He also said that he personally visited the border before calling for the administration to fix the nation’s broken immigration processes.
Representative Angie Craig (D-MN) begrudgingly said she agrees with Republicans about border security. She also acknowledged that it needs to stop being used as a political vice so that the issue can be properly addressed. She also encouraged the House to support a border security bill proposed by the Senate.
A staff member for Representative Jared Golden (D-ME) said he is also concerned about the amount of fentanyl crossing the US illegally before spreading across the nation, even as far away as Maine. Cartels have found clever new ways to ship the deadly drug, even going as far as to make it look like candy.
Border Patrol agents have been overwhelmed by the massive influx of illegal immigrants under Biden’s presidency. They have recently been forced to release most illegals after simply paroling them. Agents have also expressed concerns over the number of terrorists who have likely entered the country without detection.
