(NationRise.com) – The “Squad,” a small group of far-left congressional representatives, is being rocked by a series of scandals that could end the careers of its most prominent members.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made headlines in September 2022 after she was recorded deliberately ignoring constituents calling for her to secure the border and stop illegal immigration. She and Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) were discussing plans to house a surging number of illegal immigrants in New York City.
Their plan notably included no mention of closing the US border despite the demands from constituents to do so. Tensions over the issue recently escalated further when Democrat New York Mayor Eric Adams forced children out of a school so that it could be used to house illegal immigrants.
She has also faced criticism for rash decisions made shortly after the surprise Hamas attack against Israel. The Biden administration stopped all funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees after discovering that several of its employees aided in the attack. With this knowledge, Ocasio-Cortez immediately demanded that funding be reinstated. Intelligence gathered since the attack revealed that around 10% of its workforce are involved with violent Islamic groups.
Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is facing calls for expulsion after she elevated Somalia, the nation in which she was born, over the United States. She promised citizens of her home country that she would use her power stemming from the US system to protect the interests of Somalia.
Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) is being investigated by federal officials for allegedly misappropriating campaign money to cover security. She is also facing increased scrutiny for her support of the far-left “Defund the Police” movement as crime continues surging across the country.
Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) continues to be plagued by an incident in which he pulled a fire alarm in September 2022, claiming that he thought it was a door switch. His party was attempting to stall discussions of a bill at the time of the incident.
He was more recently discovered to have previously promoted conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks on a blog that has since been deleted.
The group has gained significant backlash over the years for adopting extremist views on issues like defunding police, illegal immigration, and the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. They have managed to exert a disproportionate level of influence, but political strategist Matt Klink believes it could not be causing more harm to their causes. He said there has been some recent backlash for some of their more extremist views despite support from the mainstream media.
