(NationRise.com) – The latest polling numbers caused a former Obama strategist to publicly suggest that Joe Biden drop out of the race for the 2024 presidential election.
David Axelrod, who served as a senior advisor for Obama’s campaign before being appointed as the Senior Advisor to the President, made the controversial remarks after seeing Donald Trump lead Biden in the majority battleground states.
The New York Times/Siena poll reveals that many voters in those states believe the United States is headed in the wrong direction. The majority remains high among members of different ethnicities, educational backgrounds, and age groups.
The poll then revealed that a slight majority of voters in those states are more likely to support Trump in 2024. An overwhelming majority of respondents also said they were likely to vote in the election.
Axelrod also cited Biden’s age as a concerning factor on X (formerly Twitter). He calls it Biden’s “biggest liability” while noting it as something that can’t be changed. While he didn’t directly address Biden’s mental acuity, the NYT/Siena poll confirmed that 62% of voters in swing states list it as a concern.
Axelrod believes Biden will likely win the spot if he continues campaigning for the Democratic nomination. Polling shows that his competitors are falling behind just three months ahead of the first Democratic primaries.
The Biden administration has been rocked by controversies, which may explain why voters are migrating back to former President Donald Trump. In 2021, the year he assumed office, his administration faced significant backlash after it made the decision to leave billions of dollars of military vehicles and munitions in Afghanistan during its sudden withdrawal from the Taliban. A Pentagon report confirmed that there were no plans to retrieve the equipment. It was seized by the Islamic terrorist group shortly after.
More recently, his economic policies have faced criticism as soaring inflation left many American families struggling. Biden is also accused of being out of touch with Americans as he brags about the nation’s current economic state while citizens struggle to make ends meet.
