(NationRise.com) – Former Republican Representative for Wyoming, Liz Cheney, recently turned on her party, warning that if the Republican Party reaches a “majority” in 2025, it would be a significant “threat” to the United States.
During an interview with CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” Cheney pointed out she “strongly” believes in the ideals and principles that have defined the GOP over the last few decades but claims the party is now against the Constitution. Cheney told host John Dickerson that’s the main reason she believes the country could enter into a “dangerous zone” if Republicans become the “majority in January 2025.”
The former representative, who is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was the top-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives once upon a time. However, many Republicans now consider her a RINO, claiming she doesn’t represent or protect conservative values and interests. They also allege she always benefits Democrats by aligning with them in important decisions, even if these harm the Republican Party.
Cheney has been one of the leading critics of former President Donald Trump in the GOP, especially since the Capitol riots in 2021. She recently released a book that dramatically criticizes the current state of the Republican Party and the way some of its prominent leaders responded to the incident, which she blames on Trump.
During the interview, Dickerson noted that her new book reveals that the current House Speaker, Mike Johnson, was deeply entangled in “laying the groundwork” for the former president’s plan to overturn the election. She agreed and explained that Johnson was willing to “ignore” the courts’ rulings and do the former president’s “bidding.”
When asked about the 2024 presidential election, Cheney pointed out that the United States is currently facing an existential crisis. She also said that the worst-case scenario is that the election is “thrown” into the Congress and is overseen by a GOP majority. Cheney also warned that, if Trump wins the presidential election, the country would be “sleepwalking into dictatorship.”
