(NationRise.com) – New York Democratic Governor Michelle Grisham said in a leaked audio that became viral on social media that she was frustrated with US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In the leaked audio, which was posted by an anonymous Twitter account named Chaos Coordinator, Grisham could also be heard saying that she and other political leaders should send a letter accusing him of failing to work on border security.
In the leaked audio, the New Mexico governor was talking with someone about confiscations of licensed medical and recreational marijuana by US federal authorities at Border Patrol checkpoints in the state. At one moment, she said she was “cranky” with Mayorkas as she had asked for agents to be deployed on Sunland Park, and she still hadn’t seen a “single one.” Grisham also claimed that the ”only way” she believes she could press Mayorkas is by sending a letter saying he’s “persecuting the state.” It remains unclear whom she was talking with.
In a statement sent to the media, Grisham’s office confirmed that the audio was authentic and that she was indeed complaining about some aspects of Mayorkas’ work. However, the office didn’t reveal the identity of the person the governor was speaking with, only saying that the person in question was a “high-level admin official.” The office also detailed that the conversation took place the same week the audio was leaked to social media.
Since US President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, the United States has been experiencing one of its worst border crises in modern history, with thousands of immigrants entering illegally into the country. While many have blamed the commander-in-chief for such an unprecedented level of chaos, most have blamed Mayorkas for failing to do his job properly and preventing the situation from getting worse. The three most affected states since the crisis started have been New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, which have proposed radical measures to solve the problem.
