(NationRise.com) – Former Arizona governor candidate Kari Lake just received an endorsement from Senate Republicans in her campaign to grab one of Arizona’s senate seats.
Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) announced the endorsement on February 13th. He said Lake is a talented candidate who has what it takes to flip the seat in Arizona during the elections in November. Daines is currently serving as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He has proven to be more involved than the previous chairman, Florida Senator Rick Scott.
Kari published a statement responding with gratitude to the endorsement. She said their efforts are helping unite the Republican party in the state despite running for governor as an anti-establishment Republican.
She is currently campaigning against Mark Lamb, Pinal County’s sheriff, for the seat. However, polls show her as the clear leader among Republican voters. Her support was likely boosted by the additional endorsement of Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), who will join her on February 29th at a campaign event in Arizona.
The NRSC is also hosting an event on March 6th to help Lake raise funds for her campaign. She will be joined by Daines at the event.
Lake narrowly lost her campaign for governor of Arizona in 2022 to Democrat Katie Hobbs. However, she claims there’s strong evidence that the election was rigged. She made similar claims after the 2020 presidential election.
Competition for the Senate seat is expected to be fierce. Current Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema is currently in a tight race with Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) for the primary nomination. Lake has strongly criticized Sinema’s open-border policies, stating they have significantly harmed Arizona. She publicly tossed a copy of Sinema’s border bill in a nearby trashcan during a press conference.
Democrats currently control the Senate with a slim majority. However, several seats are up for grabs in areas that are considered highly contested. Republicans believe they can regain the majority in 2024 by making gains in crucial swing states, including Arizona.
