Johnson Calls on Democrats “To Turn the Rhetoric Down”

(NationRise.com) – House Speaker and Louisiana Republican Mike Johnson called on the Republican nominee and former president Donald Trump’s opposition to “turn the rhetoric down” after the assassination attempt he survived in Pennsylvania. During an interview with NBC, the conservative leader explained that the Democratic message stating Trump is a “threat to democracy” and that another presidency would be the end of the republic tends to heat “the environment.”

Johnson also said that Democratic leaders must reduce tensions and maintain statesmanship as much as necessary. He noted that the United States would have entered a chaotic scenario if Trump had been killed, claiming. The speaker said that every politician in the country must treat each other with respect and dignity, explaining that despite the political differences, “we are all Americans.”

The assassination attempt took place during a campaign rally in Butler when Trump was delivering a speech to the crowd. Suddenly, gunshots could be heard, and the former president touched his ear as a bullet pierced it. He was immediately taken down for protection by members of the Secret Service, who managed to neutralize the shooter. It was later known that a rally attendee was killed by one of the bullets, and two others were severely injured.

Following the incident, many political analysts said that the moment when Trump got up, raised his fist, and called the crowd to “fight” with blood on his face was one of the most iconic images and videos of the country’s modern history. Some others said that if Trump got killed, the United States would have been on the brink of a civil war.

Since the assassination attempt, many Republican leaders have blamed the extreme anti-Trump rhetoric from some Democrats and the presidential campaign of President Joe Biden for the shooting. One of these was Georgia Congressman Mike Collins, who said on his Twitter account that Butler County’s District Attorney should file charges against the president for “inciting an assassination.”
