(NationRise.com) – Former child actor and star of the popular 1980s sitcom “ALF” tragically died at the young age of 46 last week, according to reports from The New York Times and TMZ. On Wednesday, the outlets reported that Gregory’s sister, Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger, confirmed that he was found dead on June 13.
Both Gregory and his dog, Hans, were discovered dead inside his vehicle parked outside of a Chase bank in Peoria, Arizona. The news was initially shared on Facebook, with Hertzberg-Pfaffinger telling followers that their family had suffered a loss “way too early.”
In the statement, Gregory’s sister explained how she and other members of her family believe that Gregory had visited the bank on June 12 to deposit checks but that he never got out of the car. Instead, Gregory is believed to have fallen asleep in his vehicle and died from heatstroke.
Hertzberg-Pfaffinger said that her brother was a “great Son, Brother and Uncle,” and that he was “fun to be around” and frequently made the family laugh.
“Still, going through his things, I find myself laughing at little videos or notes of his in between crying,” she said.
Gregory, born in May 1978, left acting in the early 1990s before he enlisted in the United States Navy in 2003. During his time in the Navy, Gregory served as an Aerographer’s Mate and specialized in oceanography. He was eventually honorably discharged for medical reasons in 2005. In 2006, Gregory married his wife Sarah.
His tragic story underlines an issue that resonates with many families across the United States today. Gregory is understood to have suffered from sleep disorders and bipolar disorder. Speaking to TMZ, Gregory’s sister indicated that his medical conditions played a part in his death and that he likely fell asleep in his vehicle as a result of his sleeping disorder, preventing him from sleeping for several days.
Officially, Gregory’s cause of death has not been confirmed, and the medical examiner’s officer in Maricopa County says that they will announce the news as soon as all investigations are complete.
