Using a fire extinguisher and a metal bar, Harper managed to break the car’s window and rescue a 25-year-old woman from the burning wreckage. “Any human in their right mind is going to stop and help,” Harper told reporters, describing his heroic actions.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing tires squealing and the impact before the car exploded into flames. Keith Barrow, who was in the vicinity, recounted, “We were on the opposite side of the river and we heard the tires squealing and we heard the impact. So I drove over to DVP and Lake Shore and by that time, the flames were 20, maybe 30 feet high. It was scary to see.”
