Case Dismissed: Trump Handed a Huge Win

(NationRise.com) Federal Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed on July 15 the confidential documents case of former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump in Florida, in what many described as a surprising move. Political analysts said that Trump’s legal victory could end up increasing his chances of winning the presidential election in November, as it happened 113 days before the electoral event, and it could have represented a significant obstacle.

Following the decision, Trump said during an interview with Fox News that he felt thrilled by Cannon’s ruling and explained that she showed “wisdom” and “courage.” The Republican leader also explained that the decision will have “big implications” for many other cases and accused Special Counsel Jack Smith of doing everything he could to take him down. Trump also told the conservative network that he believes the week can end up being “amazing” following the assassination attempt he survived during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Legal experts have been saying over the last few weeks that the former president’s charges in his documents case could have ended up scoring a conviction in at least one of the four cases authorities have against him. They added that the ruling could affect the other federal case Trump is dealing with, related to his challenging of the 2020 presidential election results and the January 2021 Capitol riots. Political commentators like Ben Shapiro also said that, along with the Supreme Court’s ruling about presidential immunity, Cannon’s decision represents great news for the conservative leader on the legal issues he’s currently battling.

Trump was formally accused of illegally taking US classified documents at his Florida Mar-a-Lago mansion after leaving office. The federal judge ruled that the House of Representatives and the legislature had to appoint constitutional officers and approve all spending for the prosecution. In his ruling, Cannon wrote that the United States executive branch cannot usurp that role, whether in the documents case or any other.
