BBC Host In Hot Water After Calling On Biden to Assassinate Trump

(NationRise.com) – A BBC host named David Aaronovitch was slammed over his calls for US President Joe Biden to kill former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump on July 1. On his Twitter account, he wrote that if he were President Biden, he would “hurry up” and have the Republican leader murdered as soon as possible on the basis that Trump represents the biggest “threat” to the United States’ “security.”

At the end of his post, Aaronovitch included the “#SCOTUS” hashtag, which many people suggested he did in reference to the United States Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. The high court explained in its decision that former US presidents have full immunity from prosecution for the acts they committed during their time in office but can be formally prosecuted for those committed unofficially.

Following the post, many journalists and social media users criticized the BBC host for his comments, claiming that Aaronovitch committed a major breach of BBC’s rules around impartiality. In September 2023, the British broadcaster imposed new social media rules for their reporters and journalists that increased restrictions on expressing political views about politicians or parties they support.

One of the journalists who criticized Aaronovitch the most was American reporter Jack Montgomery, who accused him of being obsessed with the Republican leader and having no respect for the millions of Americans who supported him. The Spectator’s columnist Steven Barrett also criticized the BBC host, saying on his Twitter account that it seemed that the British broadcaster may be having a problem with impartiality. Also, GB News reporter Adam Brooks noted that the BBC host shouldn’t be taken seriously as he’s nothing more than an “utter scumbag.”

Over the last few months, some public figures have called for the assassination of the former president. In addition to Aaronovitch, actress and left-wing activist Lea DeLaria also asked President Biden on her Twitter account to “take out” Trump as he said that the United States was in a “war” and the Republican leader was a Nazi.

The host’s comments are under even more scrutiny following the actual assassination attempt against Donald Trump on Saturday, July 13. The FBI has identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man who attempted to kill the former president during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
