Republican Rep Claims She’s Convinced Would-Be Assassin Wasn’t Working Alone

(NationRise.com) – Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna claimed on July 22 that she believes that the person who shot former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump during his campaign rally didn’t act alone. On her X account (formerly Twitter), Luna explained that after spending hours at the House oversight briefing, she’s more “convinced than ever” that shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks wasn’t the only person involved in the assassination attempt.

Her comments came after some whistleblowers testified that the US Secret Service didn’t have enough staffers during Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. They added that most of the conservative leader’s security detail wasn’t comprised of Secret Service agents but of inexperienced agents from the US Department of Homeland Security.

In a statement, the FBI revealed that while they gained access to the shooter’s smartphone, which was recovered at the crime scene, agents were having trouble getting into some encrypted foreign platforms that Crooks was using. While the agency said that its agents found numerous types of weapons and a second smartphone at the shooter’s house, it didn’t specify whether agents got access to that second phone or not.

During a House hearing, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle claimed that agents weren’t positioned on the building where the shooter tried to kill Trump. When asked why, she explained it was because of the building’s “sloped roof,” which represented a safety concern.

Despite her comment, local law enforcement agents who were at the rally countered Cheatle as they said they properly informed the chain of command about the shooter. They even claimed they told the Secret Service they were watching a suspect acting suspiciously half an hour before he started the shooting.

Following the assassination attempt, political figures and commentators from both parties have spread some conspiracy theories about the incident. While some Republicans believe that the shooting was a larger conspiracy whose main goal was to kill Trump, some Democrats believe that the former president staged the whole incident so he could boost his popularity.
