(NationRise.com) – Immigration authorities have revealed that one of the three suspects police arrested on June 30 because of the shooting death of a New Orleans’ French Quarter Tour guide is an illegal alien with criminal records in the United States. The immigration status of the other two suspects remains unclear.
In a statement, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that the three suspects were 15-year-old Kevin Nuñez, 17-year-old Jerben Alvarez, and 19-year-old Joshua Bonifacio, who is a Honduran national who entered the country illegally. The agency explained that each one of them was arrested by the New Orleans police a day after the killing of Kristie Thibodeaux. She was only 43 years old when she was shot to death inside her vehicle on St. Peter Street during morning hours.
ICE explained in its statement that Nuñez was accused of being the one who pulled the trigger, saying that Bonifacio was first detained by Border Patrol agents in 2019 in Hidalgo, Texas. The agency added that he was eventually arrested on numerous occasions not only for theft but also for contributing to juveniles’ delinquency. ICE also detailed that Bonifacio has been booked by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office since February this year for six local violations.
New Orleans Police Department said that Thibodeaux’s slaying was part of an armed robbery and explained that Nuñez had an arrest warrant at the time of the crime. The police added that officers managed to track him down as he had an ankle monitor.
Journalists on social media said that Nuñez had a vast criminal record in the United States that included seven counts of illegal possession of a gun, domestic battery, and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to house arrest by the Judge of the Chief Juvenile Court, Candice Bates-Anderson.
About the murder, Louisiana’s Governor Jeff Landry said that Bonifacio should have never been in the state as he entered the country illegally. He also said that the US must close the border.
