CEO and Daughter Killed in Freak Accident

(NationRise.com) – A Utah-based CEO and his daughter were killed in a freak accident involving a bulldozer and a tow truck, and photographs shared online show the horrifying aftermath. The pair were killed when the bulldozer fell off of a tow truck and landed directly on top of their SUV, killing them instantly.

Businessman Richard David Hendrickson was traveling with his daughter Sally to Ogden Canyon in Weber County, Utah, when a tow truck carrying a bulldozer on a two-lane passageway passed their vehicle. The heavy vehicle toppled off of the tow truck as the vehicles turned around a bend, according to Trooper Heywood of Utah’s Highway Patrol.

Photographs shared by The Daily Mail show the bulldozer on its side, and the SUV completely flattened beside it.

The pair were traveling in the same vehicle as Hendrickson’s wife and their other two daughters. The surviving three family members sustained injuries but are recovering from the accident.

The news came after Lifetime Products, the company that Hendrickson owned, issued a statement announcing his and his daughter’s passing.

Hendrickson leaves behind another daughter who was traveling overseas at the time of the tragic accident.

The Utah CEO’s company specialized in equipment and outdoor furniture, and Hendrickson had a long career as a welder before becoming the CEO of Lifetime Products. The company’s founder, Barry Mower, told the press that Hendrickson “progressed through multiple levels of the company” to eventually become president and then CEO as a result of his “extraordinary talents and abilities.”

Mower described his late colleague as one of his most “trusted and cherished friends” and added that the company will not be the same without his presence.

The horrific accident prompted members of the community to launch a petition calling on authorities to implement new legislation that prevents some kinds of vehicles from being allowed to drive on narrow roads, including the Ogden Canyon two-lane passageway. The petition describes the road as a “lifeline” for many citizens in the area, adding that the steep mountain cliffs on one side and Ogden River on the other make it a “nerve-wracking” daily commute for families and young drivers already.
