Robert De Niro Slams Trump & His Supporters

(NationRise.com) – Hollywood actor Robert De Niro blasted former President Donald Trump during a Sunday press conference at the Cannes Film Festival. Without saying his name, the actor called the Republican leader “stupid” and even criticized Americans who still support him.

De Niro made these comments while talking about the latest film he’s part of, which is the Martin Scorsese-directed Killers of the Flower Moon. At one moment, he started to talk about his character William Hale, who is known for instigating the infamous spiral of violence in the Osage Nation in the 1920s. De Niro said he doesn’t understand too much about Hale, as he described him as a “sincere man” who had a dark side that is part of “the banality of evil.”

Following this description, De Niro said the world should watch out for this type of person, pointing out there’s one in particular in the United States today. After that, he said everyone knows “who I’m going to talk about,” but then claimed he won’t say his name, unmistakably hinting at Trump.

However, De Niro explained he didn’t want to take this step “Because that guy is stupid.” He then compared the former president with Hale, pointing out that at least the latter “was smart in many ways.”

Following these remarks, actress Lily Gladstone tried to change the subject and started to talk about Hale’s funeral. She pointed out it was incredible how members of the Osage tribe attended it, as they believed he wasn’t guilty.

At that moment, De Niro suddenly interrupted her to say “I mean, look with Trump.” He then said this is a similar situation to what’s happening with the former commander-in-chief and many Americans right now. The actor explained it’s astonishing there are still US citizens “who think that could do a good job,” pointing out that this is something “insane.”
