(NationRise.com) – Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said on June 12 he will pardon former president Donald Trump for his federal charges if he becomes the commander-in-chief. The businessman even challenged other GOP presidential candidates to guarantee they will take the same step if they get elected. So far, only former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have expressed support for Trump.
During a press conference at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Courthouse in Miami, Florida, Ramaswamy suggested Trump was suffering political persecution. He said that President Joe Biden set a “dangerous precedent” by using police force against his main political rival. He then added that no one in the United States is “above the law,” pointing out that President Biden shouldn’t use federal police to arrest his rivals.
While some legal experts have been saying there was no wrongdoing in Trump’s arrest, political analysts believe this situation has a disturbing look. They say that the fact that a member of the Biden administration decided to take this step against President Biden’s likely challenger for the White House is disturbing.
Many polls have shown that Trump is currently the main favorite not only to win the nomination but also to beat President Biden.
Ramaswamy also said in a letter that he condemns the charges against the former president and called on other candidates to sign a pledge to pardon him if they are elected. He explained that if Trump eventually can’t run for president because he’s prosecuted, this will be one of the most delicate moments in US history.
Ramaswamy said this situation will destroy public trust in the American justice system and the electoral process. The businessman sent his letter to every presidential candidate both in the Republican and Democratic parties. He said that, whoever is elected, their main job will be reuniting the United States and preventing this situation from getting worse.
