Lindsay Graham Says Leaks Have Damaged US-Middle East Relations

(NationRise.com) – South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said during a Sunday interview at ABC’s “This Week” that the leak of classified Pentagon documents has damaged the relations between the United States and some countries in the Middle East. Graham told host Jonathan Karl that after being in Israel and Saudi Arabia, he was able to determine that the publication of this top-secret information has “been very damaging.” He added that these leaked documents have shown concerning information, including the weakness of Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and the alleged cooperation between Israeli intelligence Mossad and anti-government protesters.

Graham also explained that political leaders in the Middle East are worried because this leak makes them think that sharing information with the United States is a risky business. After all, it will eventually appear on social media or in newspapers. He also told Karl that this situation has damaged the US image in the region.

Earlier this month, a batch of military documents with top-secret material appeared on some of the most important social media platforms, including Facebook and Telegram. These documents have been quite controversial since they showed concerning information about Ukraine’s military capabilities and some alleged US spying operations in different nations, including allies.

On Saturday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States’ cooperation with some of its main international allies hasn’t been “affected” by the leak of the classified Pentagon documents. About this issue, Pentagon press secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters in Washington that the leak was a “criminal act.”

On Thursday, US authorities arrested Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard who the FBI determined as the person who leaked the top-secret documents. He was charged on Friday for violating the Espionage Act.

Regarding this issue, Graham closed his interview by saying that he felt shocked that Teixeira had access to the Pentagon classified documents and claimed that some people needed to resign or be fired over this leak.
