Chris Christie Slams Hunter Biden Investigation

( – Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie recently called for the appointment of a special counsel to oversee investigations into the Biden family’s dealings. During an interview at Fox News, the former New Jersey Governor said that the US attorney general needs to take this step as soon as possible. He claims this would be the best way to get such an important case out of the “[President] Joe Biden Justice Department.”

Christie made these remarks a day after Hunter Biden’s plea collapsed. The president’s son was expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax offenses involving willful failure to pay federal tax. While many anticipated he would take this step to avoid jail time for a felony gun charge, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty.

The GOP presidential candidate told host Charles Payne it was a mistake that a special counsel hadn’t overseen the case from “the beginning.” He also claimed that this is “a charade,” as US Attorney David Weiss doesn’t have enough competence and “independence.”

Judge Maryellen Noreika refused to accept the plea deal, as prosecutors told her that Hunter Biden was still under federal investigation. Noreika then raised concerns about its constitutionality, particularly the immunity the president’s son would receive and the diversion clause.

Christie agreed with Noreika’s view of the agreement when asked about her stance. The former New Jersey governor said the plea deal made “no sense,” adding that it made everything look worse that the government said he’s not “really immune for other stuff.”

Following Hunter Biden’s plea deal collapse, the Biden administration said it respects the Justice Department’s independence. In a press conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that President Biden hasn’t interfered on behalf of his son.

She explained that Hunter Biden is a “private citizen,” pointing out that his case and the investigation against him are a “personal matter.” Moreover, Jean-Pierre said President Biden and the First Lady love and support him as he keeps rebuilding “his life.”
