(NationRise.com) – Russia Today editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan allegedly called for the assassination of Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. The media outlet is one of the most important in Russia and is known for spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda and being controlled by the Russian state.
Simonyan made these controversial remarks after Graham’s recent comments about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He has been one of the strongest supporters of Ukrainian troops in the Republican Party and has even called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to be killed.
Last week, during a meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Graham said that the aid sent by Washington is the “best money we’ve ever spent.” While some GOP leaders have criticized the Biden administration for sending these military and economic aids to Kyiv, Graham has supported this measure.
In the meeting, Graham also compared the Russia-Ukraine war to the United States’ Revolutionary War against the United Kingdom. Finally, he said that “Russians are dying,” a moment that was manipulated and edited by Russia Today and other pro-Kremlin media outlets. The goal was to make it appear as if the Republican Senator was somehow celebrating the killings of Russians.
During an appearance on Russian television, Simonyan referenced Soviet soldier Pavel Sudoplatov, who was involved in the killing of Leon Trotsky. She said that all she could hope for after hearing Graham’s comments was that Sudoplatov’s grandchildren or sons were “alive.” She then said “It’s not even hard,” pointing out she has “his address.”
Following these remarks, the program’s host, Vladimir Solovyov, blasted the South Carolina Senator. He said that Graham’s “dirty American money” was the main supporter of Germany’s Third Reich, and even accused him of being a “Nazi beast.” Moreover, Solovyov accused Graham of taking the same steps as his “predecessors.” Finally, he said that Graham “will croak,” but Russians “will live forever.”
